Requiem for Ashling (Forever Love)

Requiem for Ashling (Forever Love)
Thomas Seán Purdy

Hurt wails

Through the muffling screens

Of news media and headlines.

But I feel the imprint of the Innocent,

Victim and daughter,

The wondrous face of Forever Love

To mother and father,

To siblings across the family table,

To boyfriend, best friends, pupils, coworkers.

Now also the face of Forever Love

To community and country.

The Innocent did not deserve

To have Evil

Share path nor street nor sky that day.

And while the surge of Humanity

Will never be enough

To fill that void left between us,

To ever hug

With enough warmth

To feel the temperature change,

We must try.

For Forever Love.
