The shop stocked nylons with and without seams until the introduction of tights. They were revolutionary for the modern woman of the sixties, particularly as the mini skirt had become the fashion item of the day thanks to Twiggy. Women were no longer required to wear suspenders and a belt to hold up their stockings and tights were more in keeping with the shorter skirt now being worn by modern, fashionable women. Individuals in my community, both male and female were very trendy and Saturday night was a big date night for both married couples and young people dating. Venues included dance halls and the cinema and everyone wanted to look their best going to town.
