Currach as work of art (3)

This beautiful currach frame with two thwarts had been built by Monty O’Leary from the Maharees. Meanwhile it has been replaced by a steel sculpture, see my post ‘Currach as work of art (2)‘. Currachs with two thwarts are quite rare in this area, but I have seen them on water occasionally.

The first currach monument at this spot was made by Eddie Hutch from Dingle, but had been destroyed in a storm. For further information see this Irish Independent/Kerryman article (January, 2011) here.
