Currachs at Ballymore, 1989

In 1989 I spent some time at the Ballymore camp ground between Dingle and Ventry where I visited a friend. There was a little creek with fishing currachs and I decided to take a closer look and some measurements, since I thought I might build one myself eventually.

It was hard to believe that you could launch a canvas covered boat from that rocky location, and a local fisherman told me that you must know the spot precisely and be pretty careful.

None of the boats was adapted for a motor (with the typical opening towards the stern).
I should check that place again, but I think there will be no more currachs left.
