In 1993, I met Joan Maguire in Dingle. At that time she was running a “musicoffice” in Dykegate St., somewhere between the Grapevine Hostel and Paddy’s Bikeshop, to coordinate and promote folk music in Dingle.
Someone had told me she was a currach racer and I had asked her for an interview. I visited her at her home near Ventry and took a few photos from her and her trophies (a few samples on the photos).
She told a lot of interesting details about racing and currach builders from the Maharees. Unfortunately I lost the script, but the photos are still in my book.
Later she took over the organising of the Ventry currach regattas.
