The banshee was heard from a house close to the grounds of Renvyle House Hotel

Around 40 or 50 years ago, my aunt in Connemara swears that she heard a banshee.

She was living in Renvyle, near the hotel. One night, the dog was scratching at the door very vigorously and whimpering, desperate to get inside. She opened the door and it flew into the house and dived under a table quivering. She then heard this horrendous noise from somewhere outside in the darkness, like a screaming sound.

That night, her father-in-law died.
