GO: Now, Anne, you went back to England, Gerard and yourself, so you went over and back I suppose over the years, but when you went away in the early 1950s and yet coming back then in the 60s and then again for good in 1970, what changes did you see in the lives of women in rural Ireland?

AF: Well, there was a lot more freedom of… and things that they had, the women of Ireland you know they had washing machines and all that, you know, electricity.  There wasn’t hardship, you know, that the women had.
