Researching farming families in Ireland using Landed Estate Papers

Talk details

In this presentation Dr William Roulston shows how the records generated by the management of landed estates in Ireland can be used to research farming families in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The various categories of estate papers, e.g. leases, rentals, maps, surveys and correspondence, will be discussed and information will be provided on where these can be accessed by researchers.

Dr William Roulston is Research Director of the Ulster Historical Foundation and author of Researching Farming Ancestors in Ireland (Ulster Historical Foundation, 2021)
