How to: access, use and understand your Google Analytics

Google Analytics tracks visits to your website so you can discover how many users have visited and when, how many pages have been viewed, where users reside, their demographics, how they arrive at your website and what they look at once they arrive.

The reports can inform how successfully you are attracting visitors through your social media channels or your promotional activities , such as radio interviews or newspaper articles.

You can also determine what pages are most popular and how users navigate through your website.

The Our Irish Heritage website was used as the example for this training session. This website has been active for over 10 years  and consequently has built up fairly robust visitor numbers. Please remember that it does take time and effort to establish a strong user-base and that this happens over time. The more new content you publish and the more you get your website address out in the virtual space (social media, links on other websites, iCAN postcards, e-shots, etc.) the more users visit and return again and again.
