The Westport Railway station opened in 1866 and is part of the Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) by the Great Northern and Western Railway (GNWR) Company. Westport to Achill closed to passengers on 1st January 1935 by the GSR. It re-opened 20 April 1936 due to road construction in the Achill area but finally closed completely on 1st October 1937.
