'Beyond the surface'

By CCAM GMIT ART STUDENTS YEAR ONE- Centre for Creative Arts and Media ,Wellpark Galway
This project showcases the students response to the collection of The National Museum of Ireland- Country Life, Turlough House, Castlebar.
‘Beyond the Surface’ challenged students to investigate, explore and create artworks that reflected their contemporary take on the Museums’ rich and evocative collection of intriguing objects. From the familiar to the now obscure, from domestic to agricultural, from hand -made textiles to ancient sliotars made from horse hair .The Collection inspired an imaginative response in a diverse range of media, scale and styles. The students worked on the project for a 6 week period producing a body of work including sketchbook ideas, explorations and experimentations .They then collated their findings and produced a final 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional piece of work.
The exhibition was launched on December the 10th 2013 at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media by Mr Paul Gosling, lecturer in Heritage Studies, Dept. of Heritage & Tourism at GMIT and Mr Tony Candon, Manager/Keeper, National Museum of Ireland - Country Life.
