Traditional boat construction (Naimhòg) sometimes called a canoe at Maharees

Photo shows three generations of the Leary family (Murt, Michael & Monty) , Maharees , Co Kerry , naomhòg makers in the Kerry style – taken in the ‘60’s by Hugh (Q) Burke of Cork. Monty continues to build these craft to this day . Of historical interest also , Murt Leary was the pilot assigned to lead the ill/fated arms delivery ship in the struggle for independence , the Aud , through the Maharee sound to Fenit.
