My maternal grandmother got the Spanish flu in 1918 and survived. Her name was Mary Malone (nee Gibbons) from Loughatarriff (Devleash West), Ayle, Westport , Co Mayo.
All I heard my mother saying about it was that the doctor came out the 9 miles from Westport on horseback to attend to her.
