The empty cooking pot has a very long history,

For many years ago came to story,

Of the Great Irish Famine

When times were rough,

And landlords were terrible,

Terribly tough.

But some landlords helped the ones who were starving,

The young, the old and the middle-aged dying,

By using these pots to make some soup,

And the poor ones starving came group by group.

That is the story of the empty cooking pot,

Some people thought they were left to rot,

Some places still have one or two left,

Museums are mostly where they are kept.
