The Emigrant's Suitcase

by Amanda Murniece, 2nd Year

Object No.95 Emigrant's suitcase, 1950s

On a beautiful summer morning

I picked up my brown tattered suitcase

I took one last glance and walked out the door

I said goodbye to my past and hello to my future

My suitcase is tattered and old nearly like Einstein

It has been passed on from great grandparents to me

As I got to the ship I took the very last glance

I felt sad and sea sick as I got on the boat

Oh I forgot to tell you ‘my name is Alexandra’

You probably wonder why G.T. is on the case?

Well that stands for George Tobin

Yes, that’s right, I named my suitcase George

I bring him everywhere with me

It’s the only valuable thing left from my family

But the best thing about George is

He keeps my deepest secrets.
