Rusty Chain

By Callum McGrath, Primary

Object No. 39 Slave chain, late-ninth or early-tenth century
The County Museum, Dundalk, Co Louth,

This may seem like just a rusty chain,

But it has more of a story to tell,

Those who wore it lives had burn down in flames,

For a life of sorrow had begun,

A life of maiding and chores,

And mistreatment and roars,

And if they did not do it right,

It would be bye bye and goodnight

And they would turn out their lights
