Today was the day,

That we had to go,

Away from out country

Away from Mayo.

I didn’t want to leave

Because of all the memories we had,

Like the pot full of porridge

That made us really glad.

There sat the teapot,

It won’t be used anymore.

I see my mother lifting it

Out through the door.

My mother used the teapot

Mostly everyday.

She’d call me in to have some

When I’d finished all my play.

There was my suitcase

Packed with all my things.

Like all my clothes and toys,

That’s all that I could bring.

I’m sorry to have to do this,

But I really need to go.

Away from my country,

Away from Mayo.
