James Connolly

by Marie King, First Year

Object no 91. James Connolly's shirt, 1916
National Museum Decorative Arts & History

 This is a poem about a poet’s shirt,

A shirt worn by James Connolly in Dublin,

             Easter week 1916,

James Connolly was so badly wounded,

that when it was time for his execution

he had to be strapped to his chair;

this shirt was worn during James’ last week of life

and that is why I think it is in the 100 Objects
