Iron Spearhead

By Natasha Hall, 2nd year.

Object No. 14 Iron spearhead, 800-675BC
National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology

(The spearhead was found near the River Inny In County Westmeath)

the spearhead could be seen,

As good, bad, or in between.

It has killed many a man, but fed many more,

It has saved its owner’s life, apart from

The last time she went to war.

She’d seen many troops stand, many troops fall…

She sparkles ‘cause she’s made of Iron,

But has seen many a dull day,

In the banks of the Inny she lay,

Caked in muck, dirt and clay,

For many years, and many days.
