Icon of Fear

By Conor O'Reilly, 2nd year.

Object No. 100 Decomissioned AK47, 2005
National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts and History

Such a weapon is an icon of fear.

As this innocent man clutches the stock,

The eyes of the enemy fill with shock.

He then begins to shed tear after tear.

He can’t contemplate what he is soon to do,

He gingerly squeezes the stiff trigger,

Newfound confidence grows bigger.

Man and weapon is a menacing brew.

But this Ak-47 was seized,

In a container of war equipment,

which came in a large Libyan shipment,

The founder was undoubtedly pleased.

now decommissioned and in a glass case,

Never to be used as a “coup de grace.”
