Emigrant's Teapot

By Niall Murphy Rang 5

Object No. 82 Emigrant's teapot, late-nineteenth to mid-twentieth century
National Museum of Ireland - Country Life

As I pour my tea with the teapot my great Granny brought from Ireland during the famine,

I think back to what we learned in school and what she must have gone through,

like sleeping in the slums of the coffin ships with people who had plagues and diseases and not only that,

but if God took her she would have been thrown overboard

but she stayed strong and survived all the way to Ellis Island.

So as I finish making my cup of Tea,

I feel so proud of what my great Granny did.
