Art of Ireland

By Jack Wyse, Transition year,

Object no. 28 Book of Kells, c.800
Old Library, Trinity College Dublin

Two gold lines, Intertwine,

Creating an intricate dance,

Around gems and jewels,

All placed with a delicate touch,

To create a series of patterns,

Weaved in and out of each other,

Such a masterpiece could only be made,

From the hands of a master craftsman,

Whose blood sweat and tears,

Are represented in a book,

A book of belief,

A book of religion,

A book to represent our,

Patron saint’s religion,

This book is so vital,

To this country’s history,

Its beautiful pages,

Contain Christianity,

That our country began with,

Our ancestor’s beliefs,

Its value is priceless,

Its meaning is timeless,

It represents kindness,

Our country’s’ history.
