My memory

I remember visiting my grand Auntie’s Kay and Nan Heneghan who lived on Newtown Street in Castlebar, they would put flowers outside their front door and leave them outside on the 1st May to welcome the summer. The flowers would be brightly coloured and the houses on that street would all have done the same thing so it looked very pretty. Their friend Leo O’Shaughnessy who is the only remaining resident on that street now, used to bring flowers to a lot of the houses to put them outside, he still continues this tradition.

When did this happen?

Every May 1st from mid 70’s

Where did this happen?

Newtown Street, Castlebar
