May morning

About this custom

The custom of placing Mayflowers at the front door on May morning is continued by some families in my own village Enniscoe and Crossmolina town. The Mayflowers were dug up or picked the evening proceeding May 1st wrapped in moss and a bunch placed each side of the front door. This was in honour of Mary celebrating the beginning of her month.
