Bishop of Temnus

He held positions of professor also president at St. Jarlath’s College in Tuam, Co. Galway.

This religious man was born in Ballyheane, Co. Mayo on 6th September 1863.

Education

Michael Higgins attended Ballyheane National School, St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam, Co. Galway, St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth.

Priesthood

He was ordained a priest on February 5th 1888 also appointed curate at Robeen, Hollymount in 1889 then Westport during 1891.  Fr. Higgins returned to St. Jarlath’s College as professor.  He became president there from 1903-1910.  [i]

Bishop

Fr, Higgins was appointed titular Bishop of Temnus also Auxiliary Bishop of Tuam on March 23rd 1912. [ii]  

On June 16th 1912 he was ordained Bishop of Temnus. [iii]

Apostolic Administrator of Tuam

Bishop Higgins was appointed apostolic administrator of Tuam.  His demise occurred on April 22nd 1918.   [iv]
