This article was written by his wife Elizabeth in the Mayo Men’s Centenary Journal as a tribute.

Michael Joseph (Barney) Prendergast was born in Ballyfarnan near Claremorris during 1905.

Education

He was educated at the local national school where his mother was a teacher.

United States

Michael Prendergast emigrated to the U.S. during April 1926.

Marriage

He married Elizabeth (Mc Bain) during 1933.  They had two sons John also Bernard &  a daughter Elizabeth.

Career

Michael Prendergast was a highly successful restaurant owner in the Metropolitan Area of New York City.

Demise

Michael Prendergast’s untimely demise occurred on 29^th July 1953.  His mother, a brother also two sisters survived him in Ireland, while another sister lived in New York City.

Tribute

‘He was remembered for his fine and noble qualities of character he possessed.  Quietly he daily extended his generosity to the less fortunate of his acquaintances and contributed liberally to many worthy and needy causes.’    (Diamond Jubilee 1954)
