Search for Moran Ancestors

I am looking for suggestions on tracing my Irish heritage.

My GG grandfather John Moran left Cork Ireland and arrived in Canada in 1838.  I know he was from Connaught and probably County Mayo due to the large number of Moran’s in the area.  I believe he was about 20 years old so would have been born around 1818.  This is all the information I have.  Is it possible to search any birth records of the early 1800s for County Mayo?  Any input would be appreciate.

  • The Tithe Applotment Books of c 1834 records all the male holders of land in Ireland.
In the 1850’s have a look at Griffiths Valuation.
Then the 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland. Best of luck!
