St. Brigid's Cross

This is a photo of Mr Thomas Brennan, Clontuskert. He is a grandparent of one of our pupils, Orlaith Brennan. He is 85 years old. He was a psychiatric nurse in St. Brigid’s Hospital, Ballinasloe. He learned to make this type of St. Brigid’s Cross there. The cross is unusual, in that there are 5 weaved diamond parts to it depicting St. Brigid’s Cloak that spread out. He came to Kiltormer NS for a day to teach the children how to make these type of crosses.
